Olivia Park Student Garden

(To see more of our work, please click on the main Gallery page)

On a cold and rainy January morning in 2010, several teachers at Olivia Park Elementary asked me if I could help them create a student garden. The area we walked into was covered with giant blackberries and scotch broom towering above our heads. There were a few fruit trees from an old garden that was long forgotten and abandoned.
I saw it will be a huge project, all volunteer work; still, I said yes.
I agreed to this because it was clearly a magical opportunity for something much bigger than I could ever have imagined. I agreed to this because our team, John, Zsolt and myself were wanting to do something meaningful for a long time already.

And as I said yes, an adventure of a lifetime begun:
We are learning to 'grow children' in the garden.

  • The day we started

About the Images

Please, click on the pictures and read the story behind each image. This garden helped us bring the community together. Every person, every child has a story and so does every plant in this place.

Many local businesses provided in-kind donations to us to make this possible. Long volunteer hours of community members, parents, teachers and our family's are behind every achievement.

The garden is not finished yet. Although a garden should never be done -  this place will have many beautiful structures and features added to it in the coming years.

May we grow and blossom as we go!
